- Make sure the prism surface and sample well are completely clean and dry.
- Fill the sample well with distilled water up to the rim, using the provided pipette.
- Perform a zero adjustment.

- Remove the distilled water and dry the prism with a soft tissue.
- Filter and degas your sample before measurement.
For samples containing suspended solids, it is recommended that the sample be filtered or sieved (0.5 mm mesh diameter) before measurement. Liquids containing CO2, (beer, wine, etc.) will cause bubbles in the sample well, which lead to invalid measurement results. You can degas your sample by stirring, shaking, ultrasonic bath or by the syringe.

- Fill in your sample bubble-free.
- Turn on your SmartRef (LED lights blinking).
- Open your Meister app for SmartRef.
- Connect your device and press START.
- After measurement always clean your device thoroughly.
