For the calculation of °Baumé from Specific Gravity (60/60) two formulas are commonly used. The Wine Meister app for EasyDens applies the correct calculation method automatically. °Baumé of distilled water (SGdest H2O = 1.000) is zero.
(1) For liquids lighter than water (SG < 1)
(2) For liquids heavier than water (SG > 1)
[SG: Specific gravity (60/60); the density of the sample at 60 °F divided by the density of water at 60 °F.]
The graph shows the limits of the two equations used in the app and the turning point at SG = 1.000. Equation (1) is for SG < 1.000, starting at 10 °Bé. Equation (2) is for SG > 1.000, starting at 0 °Bé.
