The Brix scale refers to a sucrose water solution expressed in g/100g. It is a close approximation to the total dissolved solids in most water-sugar solutions.
If a sample consists not only of sugar and water but of various different soluble components this will affect the refractive index. For example with citrus juice, a high amount of dissolved acids are present in addition to sugar. The Lab Meister and Wine Meister apps support you with an integrated calculator for the required correction.
Just navigate to the section Tools in the mobile app for SmartRef and select the Brix Acid calculator. Determine the titratable acid in %w/w of your sample. Enter the measured Brix value from your SmartRef and the titratable acid value. Then the calculator shows you the corrected value in seconds. [1]
